Pricing for Postage Explained
On August 21st 2006 The Royal Mail changed the way it calculated postal charges. All postal charges will take into account the size as well as the weight of an item being posted.
Not only are the new postal charge regulations very simple to understand; they can also help you to SAVE money on your postal costs!
Here’s how postal charges work:
Small Letters
This includes all DL size (110x220mm) envelopes and all other non gusset envelope up to C5 size which can accommodate an A4 sheet of paper folded in half.
New price:
First Class - 32p
Second Class - 23p
Large Letters
This includes all envelopes up to C4 size (equivalent to A4 size paper size)
New price:
First Class - from 44p up to £1.31based on weight
Second Class - from 37p up to £1.09 based on weight
Packets
Examples of items that will fall into this category are; books, VHS tapes and cylindrical parcels.

First Class - from £1 based on weight
Second Class - from 84p up to £2.12 based on weight
